Hello all Paignton Probus Members
I trust you have all been double vaccinated and are now able to have a little more freedom, but we must still all take great care as tomorrow the country is going to be able to open up again to all activities.
I do agree that this must be the best time to remove restrictions while the schools are closed and the summer is still with us but we will all have seen the increases in case numbers so please take care.
We are now only 6 weeks away from starting our regular meetings again after the enforced 18 months break. Philip Evans and Paul Young have a programme of great talks ready for us from September 1st 2021 through ’till December 1st – the cards will be handed out at the first meeting – but Tony Hare has already put details of the first month’s speakers on our new web site; if you have not visited the site yet you really should and log on regularly as Tony is updating it all the time.
Incidentally if any member would like to add something to the site, email it to Tony 2007ajh@gmail.com and provided he thinks it suitable he will include it.
The web site is www.paigntonprobus.com if you have not looked at it yet, click on this link to browse the content.
Tony has asked me to ask you all, (when you are on the website), to subscribe to his blog with your email addresses, this only means you will be notified when anything new is added to the website
As you all know we had a get together of members at the Redcliffe Hotel on July 7th that was attended by 24 members, we had a very nice lunch preceeded by a short AGM.
At the AGM the Committee’s proposals for the next years officers was accepted en bloc by the members present.
You can view the new line-up of the Committee by clicking this link.
I thank all who supported me to be your Chairman for the next year and look forward to serving the club well for the next 12 months.
We have a very experienced Committee in place to support me, I know Barry Ross will make a good hands on President, which he will combine with being “Dinner Monitor”,
I very much appreciate Phil Evans agreeing to be my deputy Chairman. Allen Harding as we all know has been an excellent secretary for several years now and is happy to continue.
Charles Easterbrook volunteered to take over as Treasurer, I know he will put his usual enthusiasm into looking after it better than I have.
Phil and Paul have put together the first half’s programme but Paul is now going to take it on single handed, I know he will keep up the high standard of speakers that we have become used to..
Sadly Brian Dobson has had to give up his role as Almoner due to health problems, he is now slowly improving. We all owe him a big thankyou for his many years – even Brian can’t remember how many -in the job, most of us do not know the time he has given to it over the years and the number of members he has supported.
Thank you Brian from all of us.
Tony Hare is Website secretary and will be co-opted to relevant committee meetings – that will probably be all of them as we usually only have 3 in a year, likely an extra one this session.
That leaves Mike Kirkham and Dave Hanger as committee members available to take on jobs as necessary.
We do have 2 problems to sort out as soon as possible –
1. The Redcliffe Hotel, we are planning a meeting with Sandra as she is now General Manager for the new owners.
2. Membership numbers, we have lost at least 10 members since the start of lock down and we do not know how many more may not be able to come back. We do know that the 24 who attended our get together are all planning to return and I have spoken to a few more still keen to safely join our meetings but it would be useful to know how many more are planning to be with us in September.
So if you were not at the meeting please email me on royanddinah@talktalk.net to let us know if you are planning to join us on September 1st.
Thanks for reading my first epistle as Chairman.
Best regards to you all
