Meeting Report 19th January 2022

Report by our Charman Roy Matthews.
Our second meeting of 2022 and second at The Paignton Club was our first in the
Dining Room and this should be our meeting place for the foreseeable future. We
seem to have made a good transition from The Redcliffe Hotel to The Paignton
Club.
We had an attendance of 23 and 1 guest who is a prospective member.
Our speaker was John Airie who spoke on The Great Russian Composers.
John gave us a wealth of personal information and compositions that each had
created on quite a lot of composers including – Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich,
Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, Stravinsky, Mussorgsky and Rimsky-Korsakov.
Probably more information than most of us could take in.
He also played us excerpts from several well known compositions; unfortunately
his sound equipment only had a low volume so that members at the back of the
room were unable to hear it.
John also sat down and read all the talk, so not a good delivery. However slightly
understandable considering all the information contained in the talk.
After several interesting questions our meeting ended at 11.45am and quite a few
members stayed for a drink in the bar afterwards.
Next week’s speaker is Alan Salsbury and the subject is “The Torbay Lifeboat”.
