Our generation is blamed for many things that have happened on our watch. The urbanisation of Torbay has been going on for decades but what is now being proposed has the potential to turn Torbay and its approaches into an ever-expanding concrete jungle smothering out any signs of countryside.
Whatever your views you may at least want to have a say.
The following item comes from Torbay Council:-
“How many new homes do we need to plan for by 2030?
According to the Government and the way they calculate how many new houses we
need; Torbay’s housing need is around 560 to 600 homes a year. If we do not meet
this target, housing is likely to get more expensive and local people may struggle to
find a home. However, more housing may harm the environment.
We have been working with landowners, agents and local people to find land in
Torbay that could potentially be used to build new homes. This isn’t us setting out
any commitments to making certain sites available for development, this is a
consultation to help us work out the next steps.
We have six potential options and we want to know which one you think is best for
Torbay.
You can see all the options and read more about the pros and cons for each one on
our website.

Whilst 500 to 600 homes may seem reasonable it means another 6000 homes over the next decade.
The infrastructure in terms of roads doctors’ surgeries, and hospital capacity are not being taken into account.

Thank you for your Blog Nigel, it’s a very sore subject for all residents in Collaton St Mary
Why is it that any proposed housing development in Torbay is always focused on the wonderful fields and farmland surrounding our village (Greenfield)
Collaton St Mary does not have the infrastructure to manage such growth, 700 + new homes per year, Schools, Doctors, and every other services are at capacity.
Environmentally it’s a disastrous plan, wildlife which we enjoy will disappear, animals which were seen will no longer graze on this wonderful land to be replaced by a ugly concrete development that locals do not want.
Don’t get me wrong as we are not oppose to new homes but why all at Collaton St Mary.
