Meeting Report 23rd March 2022

Kelly Mine:- Our local Micaceous Haemetite mine

(Attendance at today’s talk was lower than usual at only 19 members)

Colin Vosper (pictured left) gave a talk on the work of the Kelly Mine Preservation Society with assistance from Nick Walter (pictured right) of the Kelly Mine Preservation Society.

Colin gave an indepth presentation displaying samples of MIO the “shiny ore” and jars of the refined product together with information as to its many uses.

Colin continued with a detailed history of the mine up to it’s closure in 1951 and subsequently its discovery and the birth of the Kelly Mine Preservation Society by a small band of volunteers.

Following the presentation of many informative photos and videos. Colin and Nick gave details of the location of the site and details how and when to visit.
