Today’s meeting was attended by 20 members with “apolgies for absence” from a further six.
Following the death of Queen Elizabeth 2nd we held a minute’s silence. This was followed by everybody singing the National Anthem, very professionally led by Alan Bairstow.
Todays’s talk was given by our member Ian White on the subject “The History of Jazz Music”

Ian started by reminding us that “Jazz” was initialy spelt “Jass” and was started befor 1900 though the first recordings came in the early years of the 20th Century, particularly gaining popularity from the music of Scott Joplin.
Whilst Jazz may not be the most popular of musical genres, Ian’s excellent choice of musical samples reminded many of the audience of their early acquaintance with popular recording artists such as Louis Armstrong, (Mr) Acker Bilk, Sidney Bechet.
A lively discussion followed Ian’s talk and held out the possibility of Barry Ross and Ian getting together to entertain us with a guitar duet some day.
