This weeks speaker was Ian Handford who presented “Sir Ernest Shackleton”.

Ian is a highly experienced and well known speaker who has an in depth historical knowledge. His talk set out the professional and private life of Shackleton who had a strong family connection with Torquay.
Shackleton is most well known for his journeys to the South Pole together with his heroic crossing in an open boat of over 700 miles to South Georgia Island.
On a subsequent expedition he died of a heart attack at the age of 47 in South Georgia.
Ian answered questions at the end of his presentation further demonstrating his knowledge of the subject.
