Paul Youg, our Speaker Finder reports:-
Our speaker this week was David Hinchliffe and his talk was entitled “Tin Pot and the Spy.”
David has presented to our club many times before and he has a special interest in military history and Italy.
His two interests came together in this talk about a secret mission code named “Tin Pot” during the First World War.
Italy sided with Britain and France during World War One and the Italians faced the Austro Hungarian Empire supported by Germany. Observing enemy movement was difficult at this time and this mission was undertaken by the Royal Flying Corps (for the first time ever) to parachute an Italian spy into enemy territory to do just that.
This talk was absolutely fascinating covering an aspect of the war that is little known about and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all the members present.
