Todays speaker was our member Phil Evans who gave a talk entitled “The Solar System”. Phil is well known for the excellence of his presentations and this one was no exception.
Phil commenced by explaining some of the history of discovery in relation to the solar system and how human understanding has gradually developed. He went on to present current knowledge on not only the Sun but each of the planets in turn as well as the asteroid belt. Phil was able to draw on the very latest knowledge that has been gained from the numerous NASA explorations of the planets making his presentation very current.
This was an interesting and thought provoking talk that generated a significant number of questions as well as related discussion and was enjoyed by all those present.
Next talk will be on Wednesday January 18th by Brian Golding “The History of Weather Forecasting”
