The Roman excavations at Ipplepen

Tony Taft writes:- Todays speaker was Derek Gore, Derek graduated with a first class joint honours degree in history and archaeology at Nottingham in 1972.
Derek’s presentation about the excavations in Ipplepen generated much interest among the club members so much so that the questions and answers session at the end of his presentation went on for some time.
Derek’s visual presentation showed some of the interesting finds including a large number of 150 coins ranging from a Republican denarius of 49 BC to nummi of Arcadius dating to AD 383-408 mostly bronze and silver, only one gold coin has been found so far he also showed us pottery and jewellery.
