Today’s talk was given by Brenda Loosemore and her talk was about “Fun in the 1950s”

Our photographer Tony Taft reports on the talk:-
We were all looking forward to Brenda’s talk; I know I was,
I had last listened to a talk from Brenda at the Ageing Well festival last year so I knew we were in for a treat. Todays meeting was well attended, the exact number I am not sure of, but there were very few empty seats.
Brenda’s talk consisted of interesting facts and comedy about life in the 50s. She read out some poems that she had researched on Facebook which were hilarious, and she brought back memories of products and things that most of us had long forgotten.
Brenda compared the names of things then and the different meanings now, like Pot, in those days something to cook in or put under the bed, and now something youngsters smoke. Just one of the many comparisons she made, too many to mention in this review.
I for one hope Brenda makes a return we can all do with a laugh in this day and age.
Next week our presentation will be given by Ian Handford entitled “Harry Brearly (The Inventor of Sheffield Stainless Steel)”.
Ian last presented to our club in September 2016 so many years have elapsed since then.
However, I am sure it is going to be a presentation not to be missed.
