Paignton Probus Chairman’s Summer letter.
Dear Paignton Probians,
Paignton Probus Club Chairman’s Summer Letter
It seems only a few weeks ago that we ended our Probus year and enjoyed the End of Year Lunch. I hope the intervening period has been a pleasurable one for you and you have some happy memories to recall in the months to come. Our new Probus year commences on the 4th September at the Paignton Club where we will be welcomed by Trevor and Sue. Over the years they have become very good friends of our club and go to considerable lengths to make our Wednesday mornings very enjoyable. We are very much in their debt and we should take every opportunity to give them our support.
For our more recent members perhaps a few words about the structure of Probus might be of use. Probus is an amalgam of PROfessional and BUSiness and has it’s origin in 1965 as an offshoot of the Welwyn Rotary Club. The ethos of the club is to promote friendship among those who have had some level of responsibility in their careers.Curiously it was not originally a club for the retired folk and younger men were welcome, as they are in our own club. There are Probus Clubs throughout Europe, South Africa,America, Canada and India. If you are travelling you will be made welcome at any Probus Club and no doubt given any information you require. At Paignton, we too extend a hand of friendship to any visiting Probian.
I mentioned earlier in my missive that the Club year begins on September 4th and perhaps it is opportune to mention the membership fees for the coming year. It was with great reluctance the decision was made to set the annual fee at £220. It would make life much easier for John, our Treasurer if payment could be made by BACS. Our Bank details are:-
Account name:- Paignton Probus club Account number:- 42830160
Sort Code :- 30-90-89
Now for the good news. We wish to attract new members and the best recruitment sources are existing members. The Committee has decided that there is such a thing as a FREE LUNCH! you are able to recruit a new member who remains a member for the year then your reward will be a free lunch at Christmas!
In conclusion I wish you a good month and together with the Committee look forward to seeing you in September.
Yours sincerely, Colin Small Chairman
