Meeting Report 4th September 2024.

Tony Taft reports:-
Today we had an attendance of 19 with 4 Apologies we had no guests and no new members.

Well it was lovely to see familiar faces after our summer break, we all had tales to tell of our various adventures but with the sun in short supply not too many tanned faces.

Today the talk was titled A Technicolour Decade.

Our presentation today was by Barry Ross our social secretary and his lovely wife Iris and with the aid of some very clever and expensive looking technology and a spaghetti junction of wires we were treated to life in the 60’s and the music fashion and historical events in that era.

Back in the days of Mods and Rockers Barry and Iris were mods which meant their mode of transport was a scooter with all the wing mirrors and lights to make their scooter as flashy as possible, the Rockers wore leather jackets and rode around on motorcycles and when the two groups met it usually ended up in a scrap, oh those were the days.

Barry showed us his wedding photo and the couple looked splendid both in white outfits, it must have been a nightmare to keep them clean.

We were treated to some wonderful 60’s music by various artists all gained from a CD that was bought for one pound from a charity shop,

Barry and Iris would take it in turns to explain the pictures on the screen with appropriate music, historical events such as 1969 First man on the moon, 1962 Kennedy’s speech We chose to go to the moon and 1962 the debut of the Rolling Stones just to mention a few.

Barry and Iris also talked about the fashion of that era like the mini skirt and hot pants and the flower power youngsters and their colourful outfits, Barry and Iris would sometimes go to Carnaby Street for their clothes it all sounded like they had a fun time back then.

At the end of this wonderful presentation we had our usual questions and answers session but although many members spoke little or no questions were asked it was more of member’s reminiscing about what they got up to in the 60’s
