Our speaker today was Jim Redman who is well known to the club, he has given us talks in the past, so we all welcome Jim back again.
The title of today’s presentation was “The Clown Prince Of Denmark” better known to you and I as Victor Borge, the brilliant comedian and musician, back in the days of black and white television, right up to the year 2000.

Victor Borge had dual nationality, he was a citizen of both Denmark and the United States of America, this was because his wife was American.

With the aid of slides Jim gave us the history of the life of Victor Borge, we were shown pictures of his beautiful wife Elsie Chilton who he married in 1933 and his five children, I will not list all the names of his children.

Jim played us video’s of victor Borge’s performances and it was by watching these we could see what a brilliant comedian and musician he was, his comedy was in the form of slapstick, but you could tell that even though he appeared to be making lots of mistakes everything was choreographed to perfection, such was his talent.

Victor was an accomplished pianist and we watched a video of him playing a classical piece without mistakes and it was beautiful.
Being a guest on the Muppet show was to Victor one of his most favourite achievements, he loved every minute of it and he claimed it was a high lite in his career, I have included a photo of Victor with the Muppets and just to clear up any confusion Victor is the one in the middle.

Jim gave us such a detailed presentation that when he finished, something quite rare occurred, there were no questions, but we all had a good laugh watching his video’s, it was such a treat to see true comedy without swearing or rude innuendo’s not often seen these days.
It was clear to see that Jim had done a lot of research in order to put together his presentation and we thank him and Torquay Probus for lending Jim to us.
